How it works
Blades that open and close
The blades tilt, often to about 120 degrees on the kits here (Royale Stones), on a crank handle on one post or on a motor. Closed, rain runs along them to a gutter in the frame and down a post. Open, they let sun and air through. A retractable roof slides back instead. "Bioclimatic" is the sellers' word for the same idea.
Manual or motor
Crank or motor
- Manual: a crank handle, no electrics, the lowest price.
- Motorised: a remote, often with LED lights; it needs a power supply, fitted by a qualified electrician.
- Sensors: some close automatically when it rains. Ask whether yours does.
